Truly Cutey Cakes

I’m a big fan of Debbie Brown’s cake work.

Her creations are cute, fun, and colorful. Her sculpture work with fondant is crazy – seems she’s working more with clay than sugarpaste. She captures imaginary and already recognized characters fantastically. Lucky for the rest of us, she has published several books with how-tos and tips to help us recreate her fun cakes.

Lets talk about those books, shall we.

First of all, as far as I can tell, she has 16 books…..16, people! That is quite impressive. Some of the information is standard and repeated in each book, like recipes, tips, equipment needed..etc. But the majority of each book centers on cakes she has made and a step-by-step list of instructions, including pictures, on how to replicate these sweet cakes. The books are all colorful and easy to follow.

My only concerns are the recipes for each cake don’t include how many people each cake feeds – bummer – kind of a guesstimating game I suppose. Also, she is from the UK and we have different words for some ingredients – hafta look up the English to English translation ocassionally.

Sidekick isn’t a fan of how small the actual “cake” of the cake it. He thinks that most of the cake is sculpted fondant and isn’t singing it’s praises. But he still thinks they are extremely well done.

And many more – including a few “naughty” cake books ;)

Take a perusal of these books, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Happy Hump day, Cakers!
