After a quick peruse around their website, I was more than happy to donate

I delivered 100 Red Velvet Cupcakes, Topped with Cream Cheese Buttercream (new recipe). Oh, and the cupcakes had chocolate chips inside and a strawberry and drizzled chocolate on top – YUM!

there was a little Princess named Aislynn, and she was turning 1.

The Queen Mum wanted a Princess Baby Monkey Cake. Princess Aislynn agreed.

The Queen Mum contacted a local baker, we hear she is the best in town And she was more than happy to oblige!

The baker and her Sidekick sketched, baked, sculpted and decorated the best cake yet!

Delivery went off without a hitch and Princess Aislynn and her royal family enjoyed the cake very much.

Until the baker returned back to her kitchen and realized she had made a mistake – OH NOES!!

She contacted the Queen Mum to apologize – thankfully the Queen Mum said all was fine. But, the baker, being the best in town offered a up a lovely gift (to be revealed later) as an edible apology.

Queen Mum, King Father, Princess Aislynn and her Princely Brother and Princessly Sister were full and happy and  lived CAKE-ILY EVER AFTER.

It’s almost the weekend, cakers!!!!!

Now, I’m aware of the Biblical Noah – all that water!!!

But on this day, sweet, adorable baby Noah’s 1st birthday cake had to be delivered on a morning when it had “suddenly” snowed 6″ overnight! Snow!!! This Noah, I suppose, prefers snow

*heart pounding*

Sidekick had to work his “real” job ~~~~~ and I had no one else to help me deliver this cake.

I shook with anxiety because I still remember ~all too well~ the CAKETASTROPHE OF 2010!

On the drive to deliver Baby Sofie’s 1st birthday cake, it slid into the car door, smashing the fondant and buttercream “bubbles”. In a panic, I drove back home and fixed it the best I could with seizure-like shaky hands. I made Sidekick come help and he was late for a side job – and the cake was late too!!

Sofie’s parents were more than gracious….. but still!

That day is burned into my memory.

Waking up to deliver Noah’s cake. I. WAS. SCARED.

Good news, I made it. Mediocre news – I drove 30 miles an hour on the highway for an hour ~~ I had my flashing lights on, don’t judge.

Noah was adorable!  <3 I love 1st Birthdays!<3

I cleaned out my garage and am in the process of organizing a bunch of boxes marked “memories”. (My kids are on vacation in California so I figured I’d take the opportunity to get a good clean in) Now, I’ve been watching Clean House for several years and I am well aware that things are not my actual memories. Usually I do a pretty good job keeping things organized and ridding my house of things I don’t need.

But I still have a weakness -letters/cards and my kids school papers. So. Hard. To. Get. Rid. Of.

But I’m trying to pare down.

Still, the upside is finding these pictures

Bob the Builder for Gavyn’s 3rd birthday (2002)

The buildings/trees are cut outs that I printed on photo paper, a lot of Gavyn’s actual toys for the characters and my Pièce de résistance – most of the brick wall are made out of jello jigglers

Isabella’s Princess Castle for her 1st Birthday (2002)

I believe I got this idea from FamilyFun.com.  All of the lovely castle decor is made of different candies. Notice the lean of the castle. I was pretty upset about it. But my mother-in-law, Connie (who can turn any negative into a positive) said, “Well, it leans just like a real castle that has settled, so it’s very accurate.”  She is the nicest person ever.

I hope you have enjoyed this trip down memory lane. I have. I get misty lately thinking of how cute and small my children used to be.

Katie and her cutie patootie daughter, Rosie, wanted a Snow White and the 7 dwarfs cake for Rosie’s 2nd birthday party. Rosie, it seems is more interested in the “Hi-Ho’s” than Snow White

AWESOME! Great kid!

We decided to put the “hi-ho’s” asleep in bed and Snow reading to them (she prefers it when I just call her by her first name).

This was fun to make – oddly enough – my favorite part of it are the foot and head boards – I know I’m weird.

And her cousin thought Snow White would be delicious – even though he was warned that she is made of fondant and has hardened and been painted with edible food gel – crazy kids

This cake was fun to make – it’s hard not to have fun with the kids cakes – they always have the most creative ideas

p.s. I had a root canal today – lesson – even cakers succumb to tooth illness – bummer.

The idea was a bathtub with ducks, pink bows perched on their heads. I have been seeing this cake in my head for sooooo long. Despite having some issues with the fondant (which is pretty much a given – oy vey) I was so proud of how cute the final product turned out.

Then………..

Caketrastrophe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I was driving to deliver the cake (it was raining) I was slowing to a stop at a stop sign where I had to also turn a slight right. The cake was sitting nicley in the back seat in the middle and I had my right hand back there holding onto the edge of the cake base. As I was taking this slight turn/stop, the base shifted and before I knew it, the whole thing slid all the way over to the door and smashed into it. I friggin’ panicked. I stopped the car in the middle of the road and got out to asses the damage. My hands were shaking, my heart was in my throat, and I was desperate not to actually cry. I moved the cake back to the middle of the board (why it moved, I’ll  never understand) and shifted it away from the door.

With shaky voice I called Sidekick, “I need your help, there has been a caketastrophe!!”

Luckily, he was my knight in shining armor. I was panic stricken!! The fondant for the sides of the tub were accordian-ed up, a lot of the buttercream bubbles were squished flat, and the nice letters on the front were crooked and we had to make a new “R”. All in all, it could have been waaaay worse, but it didn’t help me feel any better – being the perfectionist that I am.

Sidekick went with me this time and he held the cake while I drove. They seemed to love it.

All in all, caking is always a giant learning experience – each and every time. It certainly has a way of humbling a person.

Luckily, I did take some pretty good pictures before the “caketastrophe”

And here is a picture from the party that was taken by her Mommy, Amanda (by the by, they own the Tintypery on Main Street in St. Charles – love that place!)

Moral of the story, don’t cake alone and drive. Always have a Sidekick

Ponies, cute, hair you can braid – and braid – and braid again.

Well, sorry to say that I still find these little toys cute – I know it’s totally lame and embarrassing – but whateves

HOWEVER……

Some cakes made from this likeness are, shall we say – less than cute -

Sad/Angry ponies? – possibly because a rainbow threw up on them…

Uh – her head is on backwards and I think she needs a little “cheek filler” as she is looking a tad gaunt

What really sells it is the mix-n-match of a whole plastic pony and the googly-eyed fondant pony heads stuck to the outside of the “hut”

Freakalicious – Thank you My Little Pony for shaping my world as a child and teaching me how to ride rainbows.
