Helping to Rebuild :)

I sincerely apologize for the “vacation” – it’s been super busy around here – when you make cakes and have a cake blog – and one of those things people are ordering – the other has to be put on the back burner (oh yeah, I said it)

Sooooo…….

A few months ago a girl named Ashley contacted me through my website. She was (and still is)  a volunteer with Rebuilding Together STL. I was asked to donate a gift certificate for a fundraiser – and  of course I did.

Well, little did I know that Ashley is so flippin’ awesome! Since then she has asked me to participate in other fundraisers and has placed orders for my soon-to-be-famous Cake Bites.

In case you don’t know about Rebuilding Together STL, allow me to enlighten you!

Vision
A safe and healthy home for every person

Mission
To bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners

Rebuilding Together – St. Louis is an affiliate of a national volunteer organization. It revitalizes neighborhoods in partnership with the community by rehabilitating the houses of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and the disabled, so that they may continue to live independently in comfort and safety. Rebuilding Together – St. Louis also renews neighborhoods by rebuilding community centers, playgrounds and other community projects.

Rebuilding Together – St. Louis was incorporated in March 1992 with the first Rebuilding Day held in May of 1993. In 1993, 105 volunteers worked on five homes. Ten years later, Rebuilding Together - St. Louis completed its 500th home project. In 2008, Rebuilding Together - St. Louis will assist 110 homeowners, complete 6 community projects and complete 60 R.T. Express projects in 24 communities throughout the St. Louis area. Thus far Rebuilding Together – St. Louis has assisted 1,051 homeowners, completed 35 community projects and 306 R.T. Express projects in over 50 communities throughout the St. Louis area!

I am proud to say that I am a sponsor of this year’s ArtFix! So come see us on November 4 and help with this awesome charity!!

By the by, the cake bites are delicious, cakers!

Freaktastic – Cat Poop

So I’ve given you my opinion on Toilet Cakes with “poop” in them.

Let me introduce to pure evil——-

tragic.

bright yellow=caution

Fun kitty accessories distract you from eating “cake poop”?

I think not

poor stuffed cat, he doesn’t appreciate the humor either.

Why?

Why?

Why?

You know what,—never mind. I don’t give a cat poop.

From the hands of babes :)

Memorial Day is quickly approaching – you know what that means…..

CAKE!!!

Cake really helps celebrate any holiday – or day, really. Happy, Sad, Angry, Anxious, etc etc etc – cake is helpful.

I was looking for a great recipe for Recipe Thursday (almost the weekend) and I found this little gem: 17 And Baking

This teenager (who is now 18) has this cute blog about baking. I wish there were more teenagers like her. “Shaking Flour, Not Ass” would be their motto.

In my world anyway.

She came up with the unique way to celebrate America in cake (via her dad).

Here is the link for her directions on how to make the layers – she also has other links to 2 blogs with more detailed and picture steps.

Also, here is the recipe for the frosting:

Cream Cheese Frosting
Makes enough to frost a 4th of July Flag Cake
From The Joy of Cooking

16 oz cream cheese
10 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
4 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Beat the cream cheese, butter, and extract together until combined. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar until the desired consistency is reached.

Nom Nom Nom

Love you all, cakers!

The Best Little Cupcakes In Texas!

The Best Little Cupcakes in Texas

Twitter can be an awesome networking tool. I admit I didn’t have a Twitter until like January or February. And it’s not a personal account – strictly for SugarBritches :)

I’ve been introduced to many a wonderful cakers (and I also like to follow comedians)

Yesterday, a cupcake place in Texas called Sugar Lush Cupcakes, started following me on Twitter – awesome!

Well, I took a gander at their website – now I want to take a roadtrip to taste these cupcakes :)

Deeeeeeeelish!!!

Thank you Texas!

Hump Day cakers – have at it!

OMG, dat cke S awful

So, I have to point out 2 things first:

1. I never speak via this faux text language. I find it to be an abomination and offensive to the development of language around the earth. We have such an expansive language people – please stop being soooo lazy.

2. I actually had to use this “dictionary” to translate English into this… this… lingo.

Let’s move on….

I used the above “language” to accompany these other modern inventions which have been done a la cake – but in a bad– bad way.

I am a little offended that they would use “Taste Me” – because this has nothing to do with Alice or Wonderland. tsk tsk

Shiny.

Good thing they pictured it with the real Wii – now I just have to figure out which one is cake-

mm k.

I’m confused.

Nothing says Happy Marriage quite like this poo colored PSP with detached thumbs – I think this is a mystery for Scooby Doo and the gang.

TGIFF – TTYL Cakers,

Shannon

p.s – Come see me starting this weekend at The STL Ren Faire, I’m performing with Monkey Tales Theatre!
